This book is a translation of Dhammapāla’s commentary on the Petavatthu, a text from the Khuddakanikāya in the Suttapiṭaka of the Pali Canon. Published by the Pali Text Society as part of the Sacred Books of the Buddhists series, Volume. 34. It provides a detailed explanation of the Petavatthu, which consists of stories about Petas (ghosts) and the karmic causes of their suffering. The commentary, Paramatthadīpanī, offers profound insights into the moral and doctrinal significance of these stories, emphasizing the consequences of unwholesome actions and the importance of merit-making. This book can be divided into four chapters such as The Snake Chapter (Uragavagga), The Ubbarī Chapter (Ubbarīvagga), Small Chapter (Cūḷavagga) and Great Chapter (Mahāvagga). It also includes indexes and explanatory notes at the end of this book.
