Jataka is the tenth book of the Khuddaka-nikāya of the Sutta-piṭaka, translation of Jātaka with Commentary (only the poems are part of the canon). It consists of verses embedded in stories of the former births of Gotama Buddha. The second book included volume three and four is a continuation of the translation of the Jātaka that contains a total of 210 Jātaka stories and explores the Buddha’s past lives as kings, merchants, and ascetics including many stories, the Bodhisatta cultivated on his path to Buddhahood emphasizing the perfection of wisdom (paññā pāramī), truthfulness (sacca pāramī), loving-kindness (mettā pāramī) and equanimity (upekkhā pāramī), etc. Volume III, translated by H.T. Francis and R.A. Nell, is divided into six parts; Catukanipāta covers the next 50 Jātaka stories (300-350), Pañcakanipāta covers the next 25 Jātaka stories (351-375), Chanipāta covers the next 20 Jātaka stories (376-395), Sattanipāta covers the next 21 Jātaka stories (396-416), Aṭṭhanipāta covers the next 10 Jātaka stories (417-426), and Navanipāta covers the next 12 Jātaka stories (427-438) with an index. Volume IV, translated by W.H.D. Rouse, is divided into six parts; Dasanipāta covers the next 16 Jātaka stories (439-454), Ekādasanipāta covers the next 9 Jātaka stories (455-463), Dvādasanipāta covers the next 10 Jātaka stories (464-473), Terasanipāta covers the next 10 Jātaka stories (474-483), Pakiṇṇakanipāta covers the next 13 Jātaka stories (484-496), Vīsatinipāta covers the next 14 Jātaka stories (497-510) with an index.
