It includes an extensive introduction, the translated verses, detailed notes, and indexes. "Elders' Verses I: The Theragāthā" (Pali: Theragāthā) is a collection of short poems (gāthās) in Pali, attributed to early Buddhist monks (Bhikkhus). The poems recount the experiences, struggles, and triumphs of the monks along their path to enlightenment (arahantship). The Theragāthā contains 264 poems.
