The Majjhima Nikāya, the second collection of the Buddha’s discourses found in the Sutta Piṭaka (Basket of Discourses), consists of 152 suttas and it covers key teachings of the Buddha, including the four noble Truths, the Teaching of Non-self, approaches to meditation for daily life. Generally, this book has three parts. The preface by Bhikkhu Bodhi and an introduction by Bhikkhu Ñāṇamoli explain how the formation of the Majjhima Nikāya. The main section is divided into three parts called Sets of Fifty (Pannasa), thouhh the last set contains fifty-two suttas such as 50 suttas in part one: the root fifty discourses (Mulapannasa), 50 suttas in part two: the middle fifty discourses (Majjhimapannasa) and 52 suttas in part three: the final fifty discourses (Uparipannasa). |
