The Book of the Discipline, Vol. III is the last volume of Suttavibhanga. It covers vol. iv of Oldenberg’s edition of the Vinayapiṭakaṃ, p. 124 to the end. This volume concludes the Suttavibhaṅga, focusing on the comprehensive inclusion of rules for nuns and emphasizing the detailed structure of the monastic discipline. The contents are divided into three sections. The first section is an introduction, summarizing the earlier rules and setting the context for the concluding sections. The second section completes the Suttavibhaṅga by presenting the remaining rules for monks like the ninety two kinds of expiation (Pācittiya), four kinds of confession (Patidesaniya), seventy five kinds of training (Sekheya) and legal questions (Adhikaranasamatha Dhamma) what is the supplementary rules for monks (Bhikkhu) and including the four kinds of defeat (Pārājika), ten kinds of formal meeting (Saṅghādisesa), the tween kinds of forfeiture (Nissaggiya), ninety six kinds of expiation (Pācittiya), eight kinds of confession (Patidesaniya), seventy five kinds of training (Sekheya) and legal questions (Adhikaranasamatha Dhamma) offenses, along with supplementary rules for nuns (Bhukkhuni). |
