Part one includes five groups of suttas: -- (1) The Division of discourse on the root (Mulapariyayavagga), -- (2) The Division of lion’s roar (Sihanadavagga), -- (3) The Third division (Tatiyavagga), -- (4) The Great Division of pairs (Mahayamakavagga), and -- (5) The Shorter division of pairs (Culayamakavagga). -- Part two includes five groups of suttas: -- (1) The division of householders (Gahapativagga), -- (2) The division of Bhikkhus (Bhikkhuvagga), -- (3) The division of wanderers (Paribbajakavagga), -- (4) The division of kings (Rajavagga), and -- (5) The division of Brahmins (Brahmanavagga). -- Part three includes five groups of suttas: -- (1) The division of Devadaha (Devadahavagga), -- (2) The division of one by one (Anupadavagga), -- (3) The division of voidness (Sunnatavagga), -- (4) The division of exposition (Vibangavagga), and -- (5) The division of sixfold base (Salayatanavagga). -- The final section provides useful reference tools, such as -- (1) bibliography, -- (2) abbreviations, -- (3) notes, -- (4) Pāli-English glossary, and -- (5) indexes of Proper names, Similes, Pali terms discussed in the introduction and notes.
The Majjhima Nikāya, the second collection of the Buddha’s discourses found in the Sutta Piṭaka (Basket of Discourses), consists of 152 suttas and it covers key teachings of the Buddha, including the four noble Truths, the Teaching of Non-self, approaches to meditation for daily life. Generally, this book has three parts. The preface by Bhikkhu Bodhi and an introduction by Bhikkhu Ñāṇamoli explain how the formation of the Majjhima Nikāya. The main section is divided into three parts called Sets of Fifty (Pannasa), thouhh the last set contains fifty-two suttas such as 50 suttas in part one: the root fifty discourses (Mulapannasa), 50 suttas in part two: the middle fifty discourses (Majjhimapannasa) and 52 suttas in part three: the final fifty discourses (Uparipannasa).
